A North Carolina teenager has been charged in connection with the death of a man found at a cemetery over the weekend.
Maria Elizabeth Pena-Echeverria, 18, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of 69-year-old James Lacy Taylor, according to a Raleigh Police release shared with the Daily News Tuesday.
Officers found Taylor “suffering from serious injuries” when they responded to the scene, identified by The Associated Press as Mount Olivet Cemetery, around 10:05 p.m., according to the release.
North Carolina State University-managed Schenck Forest sits next to the cemetery.
The university’s police on Friday alerted students that witnesses had spotted a woman and two men departing the scene.
911 received a call about the sighting of two vehicles, three people running out of the cemetery, and clothes and blood on the ground en route to the cemetery, according to audio provided by the police to The News.
The caller also reported a pair of black latex gloves and two shears, according to the audio.
The investigation is ongoing.
