Last month, the bodies of a 79-year-old mother and her 59-year-old son were discovered in their Ohio house. According to authorities, the bodies weren’t discovered until an additional year and a half after their deaths.
A teenage lad who was out hunting near Shelvagean Rhoden and her son Jimmie Rhoden’s rural property in Rose Township on December 26 discovered their deaths, according to Carroll County Sheriff officials.
According to Carroll County Sheriff Calvin Graham, “a neighbor who went up, looked into the window assuming no one was there and saw the deceased person inside one of the bedrooms.”
According to The Repository, authorities think they might have passed away in June 2021, a year and a half ago.
According to Graham, the family’s power was cut off in August when their electricity bill went unpaid, and in September 2021, Adult Protective Services requested that the agency conduct a welfare check.
Graham described how they approximated the dates of both deaths: “What was left in the refrigerator, we know the power was turned off August 24 by Carroll Electric for no payment, and there was mail in the house that showed it was somewhere about mid-June.”
Graham said that the sheriff who responded to the welfare check in September saw no indications of a problem.
When the deputy arrived at the house, he received no reaction and saw no signs that anything was wrong, according to Graham.
According to the publication, investigators said they did not find any indications of criminal activity or forced entry.
Graham stated that because they were unable to locate the couple’s next of kin, Rose Township would decide how they be buried. There will also be an autopsy.
“Right now, we’re just waiting on the official autopsy reports,” he told, “and we’ll proceed from there or close the case.”
