A Queens man was arrested for threatening to blow up a Long Island police station, officials said Monday.
Michael Mortman, 61, allegedly called in the scary threat to Kings Point Police Department about 10:30 p.m. May 20.
Michael Mortman, 61, allegedly called the King’s Point Police Department about 10:30 p.m. May 20, and threatened to “blow up” the station, officials said.
“There is a bomb in police headquarters,” Mortman told a police officer over the phone, according to court documents. “I am coming over to bomb the place.”
After an investigation, officials tracked the call back to Mortman’s home in an assisted-living facility in Rockaway Park. Nassau Police alongside NYPD officers arrested Mortman there Saturday, officials said.
He was released without bail after being arraigned on charges of making a terrorist threat and aggravated harassment in Nassau County Criminal Court.
“We hear that he made some crazy calls but he’s not a very bad guy,” she added. “He’s always smiling. He takes everything not so seriously.’”
Nassau County Police are not sure why Mortman threatened to blow up the station, a spokesman for the department said.
Mortman’s attorney, Daniel Fazio with Nassau Legal Aid Society, declined to comment.
