The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kandi Burruss recently shared on Instagram that she attended the birthday party of Lil Wayne’s daughter without a mask.
Kandi was a singer on the girl group Xscape before she became a reality star. Even after the group broke up, she was quite well known as a songwriter and producer and even won a Grammy for best R&B song for her contribution to TLC’s ‘No Scrubs’. She has written other hit songs since and also ventured into other businesses apart from music and television.
Page Six reported that Kandi and her husband, Todd Tucker, attended a very crowded and maskless party for Reginae Carter, Lil Wayne’s 22-year-old daughter. It was a costume party and the couple showed up dressed as Lil’ Kim and Diddy. She shared several videos from the party on her Instagram Stories and even acknowledged that the party was a health hazard.
“Lord, we ain’t supposed to be outside. Only in Atlanta,” she joked.
The pandemic has been sweeping across the world at a rapid rate and has claimed the lives of over 1.4 million people and infected millions more. Thus, the joke was in rather poor taste.
She also posted photographs of herself and her husband in costume.
While it was certainly irresponsible of Kandi to go maskless at such a party since filming for RHOA has been temporarily suspended due to a crew member testing positive for the virus, the ones who are really to blame are the hosts of the party. Lil Wayne and his team should have known better than to host a party with such high numbers at a time of such crisis.
Celebrities have been consistently using their celebrity status to escape lockdown and isolation protocols during this time, the most notorious being the Kardashians. While their position and wealth may be helpful in escaping the rules it does not make them exempt from contracting the virus. Considering the following that these people have and the number of young fans who look up to them, seeing celebrities acting in this irresponsible manner instead of using their status for good is disheartening.
