On Monday, former NFL player Tony Beckham was walking to his car when he spotted a man in the bushes outside his Florida home.
The man, 48-year-old Geoffrey Cassidy, was peering into the bedroom where Beckham’s 14-year-old daughter was putting on clothes after getting out of the shower, the Miami Herald reports.
Beckham noticed Cassidy was “making a motion consistent with masturbating” and sprung into action.
The father yelled at the Peeping Tom causing him to flee. Cassidy made it about 50 yards before the former defensive cornerback tackled him.
Beckham told CBS 12:
“I screamedHey what are you doing?!’ Then he took off running.”
The two got into a fight but he detained the man long enough police to arrive. Beckham released the man when deputies got to the scene.
Cassidy was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for a broken cheekbone and eye socket.
The 48-year-old later told police that he was only near the home because his car had broken down and he was waiting for it to “cool down,” The Ledger reports.
However, Cassidy never actually showed officers where his supposed vehicle was located.
Beckham said his children were terrified following the incident. He told CBS 12:
“They was crying, they’re scared. They all slept in the room with me last night.”
Cassidy has since been charged with lewd and lascivious exhibition and will head to court on February 13. He is being held on $1,500 bond.
He is also not allowed to have contact with the teen victim or any of her family members.
Beckham was an NFL player for the Tennessee Titans and the Detroit Lions. He is currently not facing any charges for hitting Cassidy.
