Six days after his corpse was discovered along Highway 4 in Concord, an East Bay teen who had gone missing on New Year’s Day was identified. Investigators think he was struck and murdered, but according to the teen’s family, the facts don’t seem to add up.
“The tire was flat when I arrived. “At the moment, the car was off,” recalled Damond Lazenby Sr. “We conducted a thorough search. We conducted numerous searches.
There have been several searches for Damond Lazenby Jr., his 19-year-old son.
Between Port Chicago Highway and Willow Pass Road, his body was found nearby.
Investigators think a car struck him, but his family is certain it wasn’t a hit-and-run.
They claimed that despite searching the region, they couldn’t find his body.
Lazenby Sr. questioned, “Why would he be hit by a car and not be on the side of the road or anything like that? And then his body turns up after it wasn’t there for a while.
Zelma Johnson, his grandmother, said, “I really need explanations because if he was hit by a car and then discovered a few days later, what transpired between the 31st and the 7th? We’d like to acquire some answers to that puzzle.
According to Lazenby Sr., his son did indeed have a flat tire on New Year’s Eve. That day, he spoke to him on the phone.
So why not come up and declare that this is what happened if it was an accident, he questioned.
He said the answer to that question is the closure he needs because he’s already lost so much.
“My everything. He’s my son, he’s my world, he’s my best friend and now he’s no longer here,” said Lazenby Sr. “That hurts to the bone.”
The CHP said the teen’s injuries were consistent with being hit by a car. But they couldn’t provide further information as the case is still under investigation.
They’re still searching for a vehicle they believe hit Lazenby Jr. It’s possibly a dark-colored sedan with damage to the right front side.
He claimed that since he has already suffered so much loss, the answer to that question will provide the closure he seeks.
“My entire being. He was my son, my world, and my greatest friend, and now that he was gone, I was devastated,” said Lazenby Sr. That is bone-deep painful.
