A Florida boy was hospitalized following a shooting in a Miami-area front yard over the holiday weekend that began when a group drove up and started firing paintball guns at the home.
The 10-year-old, who has not been publicly identified, was injured Sunday when someone living in the Opa-locka home, about 15 miles northwest of Miami, mistook the paintball guns for real ones and shot back using a real gun, CBSMiami reported Monday.
There are conflicting reports about which group was shooting the rifle paintball guns and who the boy was with when the shooting of the paintball guns began.
A report from NBC 6, citing Opa-locka Police Department Lt. Nikeya Hill, says the incident began when the group in the car drove up to the home and the people in the vehicle were the ones to shoot the paintball guns.
A report from WSVN states the young boy was in the car that drove up, which included at least one adult, and that those in the car began shooting the paintball guns while children were outside the home. The boy’s father, whose name was also not reported, told the outlet that the kids outside were shooting paintball guns at one another and disputes claims that the shooter from inside the home pulled the trigger after the group drove up.
The young boy was expected to be alright, according WSVN.
An investigation is still underway, according to NBC 6.
The Opa-locka Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
