A woman has died in agony after her boyfriend allegedly set her on fire during a heated argument. Christina Marie Spencer was burned to death by Johny Joseph Clonch, 32, in Marshall County, Mississippi, according to police. Authorities say 90% of her body was burned and that she died a few days after the attack. Marshall County County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson told The South Reporter that the couple was outside on the porch of a temporary home when the incident took place.
He said: ‘The residence owner said he was inside the house and heard a female screaming for help outside the house. When he got outside he saw the female burning.’ They were staying at a temporary home due to Clonch working on repairs for the homeowner, police said.
The homeowner allegedly used a garden hose to put out the flames as Clonch fled the scene. The couple had got into a ‘heated verbal altercation,’ according to police reports. Marshall County investigator Major Kelly McMillen said law enforcement is still investigating the motive of the crime. She added: ‘We don’t know the motive of the story just yet. We’re still working on it. ‘It’s a terrible, terrible thing. It’s one of the most heinous crimes I’ve ever experienced.’ Clonch is now charged with murder and being held on a $1million bond. He remains at the Marshal County Jail while the investigation over what led up to the incident continues.
