A Wichita, Kansas man who disliked the face mask mandate of his city was arrested on Friday night for reportedly threatening the mayor’s kidnapping and murder, a study said.
Meredith Dowty, 59, was busted, the Kansas City Star reported, for suspected threats against Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple.
As the mayor told the Star, Dowty, a prominent local singer, and former city firefighter texted the threat to another city official.
He said that he was going to abduct me and cut my neck, “said Dowty, the mayor.”
And he wanted my address because I had to see the hangman, me and everybody else was tyrannical, said Whipple.
Police confirmed the arrest of Dowty to the newspaper and said he might be facing a criminal threat charge.
It seemed like the guy was really angry about a lot of mask mandates, and because of COVID limits on older households, he said something about not being able to see his mother, Whipple said of Dowty.
“Whipple added,” It wasn’t about a guy popping off on social media.
He called someone who knows where I live and thought he was going to give him my address.
The newspaper confirmed that Wichita’s mask law, championed by the mayor, allows facial coverings to be worn in most public settings.
