Autumn Shaw and Amber Tramontana, two twin sisters from Knoxville, Tennessee, together defied the odds. Both women, who are now in their thirties, were born at the same time all those years ago. Now, they have completed something that should have been nearly impossible. The twin sisters gave birth to two newborn daughters within ninety minutes of each other on the twin sisters’ birthday.
The exciting moment occurred in East Tennessee at the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center on Thursday. Autumn and Amber gave birth to Charleston and Blakely.
“We wanted our kids to have the same experience that we had growing up. That’s why we wanted to have babies close together,” Tramontana told WATE. “‘But we didn’t plan that it was going to be this close together.”
Although the twin sisters wanted their daughters (who are cousins) to be as close as sisters, they could not have gotten the stars to align any closer than they did on Thursday in Knoxville. Experts assess the odds of such a birth occurring as 150,000 to one.
Dr. George Vick delivered both babies. Charleston came first but was quickly followed by Blakely less than two hours later. The two women had neighboring delivery rooms to accommodate their special births.
“It’s something that’s really an unusual thing. It was when we found out they both had the same due dates. It was just a God thing the whole way,” he told WATE.
Dr. Vick admitted that he had never experienced anything like this before in his career. He has been in practice for 45 years.
Both baby girls were due on October 29, 2020. The moms managed to get pregnant on the same schedule, which was their dream ever since childhood. October 29 happened to be the thirty-third birthday of both Autumn and Amber. They knew that while most babies are not born on their projected due date, it would be amazing if both girls did come on that date so they could be as close as they wanted to be.
Autumn and Amber have done everything together in life – so it was no surprise that they’d get pregnant at the same time.
“From childhood to homecoming to high school to college and nursing school, nurse practitioner school, our sons who are ten weeks apart, having them close in age and now our girls,” Autumn told WATE.
While the births of the girls were noteworthy, the sisters have gone through pregnancy together before. Two years ago, they gave birth to their sons, whom they were carrying at the same time. However, these boys were not born on the same day as their sisters were. The sons arrived ten weeks apart. They had the same initial weight and length, which was remarkable.
Autumn told WATE that she was blessed with Charleston have suffered a miscarriage.
“We didn’t really understand God’s plan or why that happened to us. We knew that it was common, but we knew he had a bigger plan, and we just trusted that plan,” she said.
October 29 will be a day of celebration for this family now that they get to celebrate four birthdays on one day.
