Police in San Francisco announced an arrest in the fatal shooting of a man on Monday afternoon in the city’s South Beach neighborhood.
The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Brannan Street, according to police.
At the scene, officers made their way inside an apartment and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite receiving medical attention, the victim died at the scene, police said.
As police were investigating the killing, they learned 43-year-old Ricky Anicas turned himself in to police in connection with the shooting. Officers booked Anicas into jail on suspicion of murder, assault with a firearm, and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
Anicas remains in custody and is being held without bond, according to jail records.
The city’s Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the victim.
The fatal shooting marks the first homicide of the year in San Francisco.
