Eight years after his arrest, San Francisco resident Jules Shibilio was found guilty for murdering and abusing his long-term partner in their Bernal Heights home, announced San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins on Thursday.
A jury determined 56-year-old Shibilio killed Mary Atchison in 2014 after subjecting her to years of verbal, emotional and physical abuse.
Atchison was found dead in their home at age 42, with 57 blunt force injuries.
“Mary Atchison did not have to die at the hands of her abuser,” said Jenkins in a statement. “Although, this verdict delivers justice for Ms. Atchison’s family and sends a strong message that abusers will be held accountable and face consequences for their brutality, there are more people suffering behind closed doors. As a community, we need to do everything we can to offer help and ways out before any more tragedies happen.”
Sibilio has been in custody since his arrest on Aug. 26, 2014. His sentence will be determined at a future court date.
