Remains found in Texas have been identified as missing 29-year-old Taylor Christine Pomaski, officials announced Saturday.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said her body was found in a ditch in the northern part of the county in early December. The identification was confirmed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. No further information about Pomaski was released.
Pomaski was last seen on April 25, 2021 in Spring, a city about 25 miles north of Houston. According to witnesses, Pomaski and her boyfriend, former NFL player Kevin Ware, got into a “violent fight” shortly before her disappearance.
Ware, 41, is a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history. On April 19, 2021, he was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and a firearm, but he posted a $23,000 bond the next day. On April 25, witnesses say he hosted a party at his home where he was allegedly seen fighting with his girlfriend.
Ware has been incarcerated in the Montgomery County jail since June of last year, when he was arrested for violating his bond. Ware, a former tight end, attended the University of Washington and was signed by the Washington Football Team in 2003. The next year, the San Francisco 49ers signed him. It was his last year in the league; Ware played just 16 games total in his NFL career.
Ware has not been named a suspect or person of interest by law enforcement, although Montgomery County prosecutors reportedly referred to him as a “suspect” in a court filing. Ware has denied being involved in Pomaski’s disappearance.
“The investigation is still open and active and homicide investigators are diligent on bringing this case to a close,” Harris County Sheriff’s Office Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland told NBC News.
