Drake is mourning the death of a young fan he met through the Make-A-Wish foundation.
The “In My Feelings” rapper took to Instagram on November 5 to share a picture of himself sitting at the bedside of a young woman named Kay who died of an unknown health complication.
In the photo, Drake can be seen wiping his eyes with a tissue during one of his hospital visits before she passed.
The artist told fans he shared the post as a way to process his grief and pay respects to the young woman. He wrote on Sunday:
Gonna miss you a whole lot. We met through make a wish and we built a genuine bond you would text me and check on me while I was on tour and tell me positive things and share your dreams and goals.
Kay and the rapper developed a close relationship through the Make-A-Wish program.
According to Billboard, Drake is a longtime supporter of the organization. Back in 2016, he visited a cancer patient during one of his tour stops in Miami.
He continued in his emotional post by expressing some regret:
I am crying in this pic but it was tears of joy cause we just prayed for you with your father. I am sorry I missed your text on my birthday that’s eating my soul right now but you know how much I loved you and was looking forward to seeing you after tour.
I don’t know why I am writing this on IG I just need to get it out cause it’s sitting heavy on my heart.
Will remember you forever K! @the.kaydiaries (sic)
As previously reported by Dearly, in August the hip-hop artist surprised an 11-year-old heart transplant patient, Sofia Sanchez, in Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
The super-fan caught his attention after she made a video in the hospital of her performing the “In My Feelings” dance challenge.
