Pair Arrested In The Alleged Kidnapping, Rape, And Murder Of Woman Who Vanished More Than Two Months Ago

by San Eli News

More than two months after a 40-year-old North Carolina woman disappeared, authorities have arrested a man and woman who they believe may have kidnapped, raped and killed her.

The Hope Mills Police Department, along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Hoke County Sheriff’s Office, announced the arrests Thursday of Beverly Ann Harris, 36, and Miguel Angel Navarro.

Both suspects are facing charges of first-degree murder, first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and conspiracy in the death of Rebecca Michelle Fellows, also known as Rebecca Garcia-James.

“We have located human remains that we believe to be Rebecca, however we still need to confirm the identity,” police said.

Fellows was last seen around midnight on July 8  getting into a dark grey 2018 Dodge Challenger in Hope Mills, according to the Fayetteville Observer.

Hope Mills Police Chief Joel Acciardo said investigators discovered a set of human remains along a rural road outside of Benson that they believe may belong to Fellows, but are still waiting for positive identification from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh, Acciardo told The Fayetteville Observer.

“This is not the outcome that we wanted, but this is an outcome that brings closure,” Acciardo said. “Obviously the outcome that everyone wanted was to have found Fellows alive somewhere.”

No information has been released about a possible motive in the case. It’s also unclear whether the suspects had known Fellows before she disappeared.

reached out to the Hope Mills Police Department but did not receive a response as of press time.

Harris and Navarro are currently being held without bond in the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Police said the investigation into the case remains ongoing. Anyone with information about Fellow’s disappearance is urged to contact authorities.
