NEW Year resolutions and January running challenges make this month one of the most popular times for people to put on their trainers and get outdoors.
But which ones do you choose? Today I look at running shoes, while our Beauty Editor puts microbiome skincare to the test.
HEALTH: with Jane Atkinson
THE PERFECT FIT – If you need new trainers and cannot get to the shops, Wiggle’s free new running shoe tool is a brilliant idea.
My Run Shoe Finder is the first of its kind.
You go on to the website and answer questions about your arches, running style and if you want to trail-run or road-run.
It was quick and simple to use and gave me several choices of trainers, from various brands, that are perfect for me.
I was sent some Mizuno trainers that fit like a glove and are a great run.
I would definitely use this again.
See wiggle.co.uk.
GET NOTICED – Brooks’ new Run Visible Collection is perfect for this time of year.
It consists of running gear that allows you to be recognised as a runner by someone in a moving vehicle from 180 metres away.
It uses high-contrast, high-visibility colours such as nightlife yellow – one of the easiest to see in low-light conditions – to make sure you are spotted sooner.
The sustainable range is aimed at men and women.
I tried the £120 Ghost 14 shoes featuring fluorescent accents.
Really great cushioning. Ideal for winter runs.

HIGH SPEEDS – On’s Cloudflow are the prettiest trainers I have ever tried, so make me want to run.
I adore these – and people have commented on them.
They are light, with fully cushioned road protection, a secure fit, 70 per cent recycled polyester, developed with elite athletes and engineered for high speeds and maximum comfort.
The company’s award-winning CloudTec technology – designed for a soft landing then explosive take-off – has made it the fastest-growing running shoe brand on the planet.
So smart you can wear them all day, too. £130.

BUDGET – The Inkey List Multi-Biotic Moisturiser, £12.99 for 30ml, lookfantastic.com
Packed with pre, pro and post-biotics, this clever cream helps feed the good bacteria, reducing irritation, and promoting an even, healthy, glowing skin.
The lightweight water-like moisturiser sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy film, but still feels hydrating thanks to the skin-identical ingredient squalane.
It has really helped rebalance my oily/combination skin and healed the dry patches around my mouth and nose.
The only downside is the funky smell.
MID – Skingredients Preprobiotic Cleanser, £26 for 100ml, cultbeauty.co.uk
I had high hopes for this creamy cleanser, created by skinfluencer and dermal facialist Jennifer Rock.
It’s fragrance-free, which is great for sensitive skin like mine, and best of all it left my skin feeling clean but not tight or dry after washing.
That said, it works best as part of a double cleanse routine or a morning cleanser, as I found it doesn’t remove mascara very well, so I used a micellar first around my eyes.
It’s also worth noting the packaging is refillable (yay for the planet) and the refills cost slightly less at £23 for 100ml.
Favourite: LUXURY – Cultured Biome One Mask, £48 for 60ml, cultbeauty.co.uk
Packed full of skin-loving ingredients such as lactic, succinic and azelaic acid, alongside barrier-reinforcing pre and post-biotics, this nifty number really does it all.
The gentle acids resurface skin, even tone (goodbye rosy cheeks) and balance oil production, all without a hint of irritation.
And hydrating glycerine provides a much-needed gulp of moisture to leave skin plump and fresh.
he jelly mask is like a reset button for your face.
I can’t get enough of it.
