During a memorial service for a mother and son, the mother’s father wanted it to be known that his daughter loved her son. During the December 15 service, Sam Stauffer read a note that his daughter wrote her son on Valentine’s Day, “Dearest Asher, you bring my life joy. I love you, my sweet boy. Love, Mom.”
According to the Tennessean, both 43-year-old Rachel Narancich and 12-year-old Asher passed away on December 10 after Rachel shot her son and then turned the gun on herself.
The Day After Mom and Son Found Dead in Home, Investigators Call It a Murder-Suicide
During the service, Asher was remembered for his love of sports, particularly baseball, and his love of aviation. Rachel was recognized for her unwavering faith, which was called the “cornerstone of her life,” according to Stauffer.
As People reports, Rachel and Asher were discovered inside their Tennessee home by a family member. Lieutenant Charles Warner said at a press conference that by the time they were called to the scene, there was nothing that could be done for the mother or son.
“This case brings unimaginable pain to the family, and our prayers are with them.” Dr. Eric Lifsey, the principal at Page Middle Principal, where Asher went to school, said the 12-year-old was well-liked by his teachers and peers. He told WZTV:
“Asher had only been a student in our school for a short time, but he was a kind young man who was well-liked by his teachers and his peers. Asher always had a smile on his face and was happy and upbeat. He loved being at school and being around his friends.”
Lieutenant Warner said that his detectives are working diligently to figure out why Rachel would take her son’s life and then her own. However, motive as to why this murder-suicide took place has not yet been revealed.
