A Bay Area sheriff’s deputy suspected of shooting and killing a man and a woman in their Dublin home early Wednesday surrendered to authorities this afternoon, police said. Devin Williams, Jr., 24, was taken into custody near Coalinga, the Dublin Police Department told SFGATE.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, where Williams has been employed since 2021, announced in a news release Wednesday morning that it was searching for Williams. The sheriff’s office described him as armed and dangerous.
The shooting was first reported at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday on the 3100 block of Colebrook Lane. Williams was spotted by witnesses who were at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. A 911 caller said two people were shot inside their home and the suspect took off in a car, the release said.
At the scene, officers found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds and called for medical aid. First responders were unable to revive them and they died in their home.
Williams apparently knew the couple, but investigators are still trying “to fine-tune their connection” and determine the motive, according to Alameda County sheriff’s spokesperson Lt. Ray Kelly.
Kelly said a male relative of the couple was visiting the home at the time; that man was unhurt and is talking to detectives about what occurred. The names of the victims have not been released.
