Pennsylvania District Attorney Tom Hogan is calling for more protection of children after a mother is accused of allegedly pushing her daughter down the basement steps and killing her.
As ABC 30 reports, Ciara Robinson, 25, has been charged with the murder of her 5-year-old daughter Amatulah “Amy” McLaughlin.
Robinson allegedly became angry with the toddler earlier in the night on October 31, before pushing her down the eight to nine feet tall staircase.
Officers were later called to the home around 9:25 p.m. However, by that time, the toddler had reportedly been dead for a while.
According to investigators, the toddler hit her head on the concrete floor upon landing. They said
Robinson allegedly admitted to a friend that she knocked her baby out. She then reportedly told her friend, “I am going to jail.”
Authorities also found out during the investigation that the young girl had been enduring abuse for a while. The autopsy showed “extensive bruises, scars, puncture wounds, and strike marks over her arms, legs, and back.”
Hogan said times like this show why it’s important to ensure the safety of children. He added that a parent committing such a crime on their own child is “horrific”:
“The loss of any child is a tragedy. However, it is horrific that a parent would inflict such sustained and brutal damage to her own daughter. We must protect our children.”
Not only did Robinson have a 5-year-old daughter, but she also has a 2-year-old son. Her son is now with the Chester County agency.
Investigators are still gathering information on the case and are asking for anyone with any further information to call Parkesburg Detective Ryan Murtagh at (610) 857-3535 or Chester County Detective Jerry Davis at (610) 344-6866.
