67-Year-Old Chicago Woman Fatally Shoots Home Invader
A 67-year-old Chicago woman was alerted by her neighbor before she confronted a man who broke into her garage in Marquette Park, fatally shooting him when he “pounced” toward her, according to Chicago police.
The shooting occurred Sunday morning (October 26). The woman was taken to Holy Cross Hospital after having problems breathing while talking to responding officers.
Chicago police said the 67-year-old woman got a call from her neighbor around 11 a.m. on Sunday that someone was in her garage in the 7100 block of South Mozart Street. The woman went outside and noticed a window was broken.
A man then walked out carrying a beanbag game that had been stored in the garage.
The woman pulled out a handgun told the man to drop what he was carrying as she walked backward toward her house. She fired one shot “when she was in fear of her life after he pounced in (her) direction,” police said.
The bullet hit the man in the chest and he was dead when officers arrived. Police took the gun from the woman and found a single shell casing on the ground, authorities said.
The man’s name has not been released. Police have not said whether the woman faces any charges.
