A teen from California sobbed in front of the city council after witnessing a ‘naked male,’ whom she claims was a transgender lady, inside the women’s changing rooms at her local YMCA.
Rebecca Philips, 17, spoke at a meeting in Santee, a San Diego city suburb, on Wednesday night to demand that the present policy be changed after confronting the unidentified individual.
She told the council that two weeks ago, while changing after swimming at the Santee YMCA, she seen a naked transgender woman in the changing rooms.
‘While showering after my workout, I noticed a naked male in the women’s locker room,’ she explained.
‘Terrorized, I ran back into the shower and hid behind their poor excuse.’
Philips, who went on to talk about the area’s transgender regulations, said she was tormented by the prospect of her five-year-old sister, whom she accompanies to the gym in the summer, being in the same predicament.
‘This is the YMCA, where hundreds of children spend their summer afternoons in child care camps,’ she continued, her voice shaking.
‘This is the YMCA where my younger sister used to take gymnastics instruction.
‘She was meant to go to the locker room to gossip with her pals, shower, and change.’
Rebecca Philips, 17, spoke to the Santee City Council on Wednesday night, pleading with them to amend their policy on transgender women using whatever facilities they chose, calling it disgusting and ‘obscene.’
The transgender woman at the YMCA changing room in Santee, California – a city suburb of San Diego Philips claims that staff told her that the trans woman was fully entitled to be in the changing facilities and that only individuals on the ses offender’s registry were barred from entry.
Women’s facilities, such as changing rooms, shelters, and jails, can be used by anybody in California, according to a state law that states people must be permitted to use facilities that correspond to their gender identity.
