Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will all miss school on their birthdays in 2022.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s three children will be able to celebrate their special day at home with their parents this year, and it’s all down to how the dates fall.
Royal children are not granted special permission to miss school on their birthdays, but George, Charlotte and Louis are in luck as their birth dates have all landed on days where they aren’t required to attend school.
Kate and William’s eldest child, Prince George, eight, was born on 22 July so he’s used to having his birthday at home as it falls outside of term time mostly every year.
However, Princess Charlotte, six, and three-year-old Louis usually have to put their uniforms on and head to class on their special day.
Princess Charlotte was born on 2 May, which falls on a bank holiday in 2022. The early May Bank holiday is on a different date each year, but means most people in the UK will be off work and schools are closed for the day.
Kate and William’s youngest child, Prince Louis, was born on 23 April, which is also St George’s Day.
While St George’s Day is not an official public holiday so schools aren’t usually closed, this year it falls on a Saturday, meaning Louis can enjoy his fourth birthday at home with his family.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte both attend Thomas’s Battersea school in south-west London, while three year old Louis is currently a pupil at Willcocks Nursery School in Kensington, not far from Kensington Palace.
George, Charlotte, and Louis’ mum Kate’s 40th birthday was on 9 January, and that also fell on a Sunday meaning she could spend the entire day with her three children.
Prince William is set to turn 40 on 21 June and, unlucky for William, it falls on a Tuesday in 2022.
However, all of the UK is set to enjoy an extra back holiday this year, as we come together to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Both Thursday 2 June and Friday 3 June will be bank holidays this year, giving Brits a four-day weekend in the summer.
Queen Elizabeth II will be celebrating 70 years on the throne, making her the first ever British monarch to do so.
Four days of events and activities will take place to mark the Queen’s historic achievement.
