The boy was honest and that is what the Judge was looking for.
Every state and country has strict rules when it comes to speeding. The average maximum cost of a ticket for reckless driving is $845, with the lowest being $100 (in Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico and Ohio) and the highest at approximately $6,250 (Oregon).
When you drive recklessly, you not only put yourself in danger, but also the lives of your loved ones in the car and others around you. Once such speeding case was handled by Chief Judge Frank Caprio. The man had recently shifted to the U.S. with his family. He had exceptional driving record in Africa, but received a speeding ticket in the U.S.
The man said he was stopped for speeding while he was driving from Harris Avenue towards Providence place. He said he did not see any speed limit on the road and was simply following the car ahead of him. He had recently received his driver’s license from Rhode Island, and was with his family when he was stopped.
He said he thought the is speed limit was 30 and hence drove on. When stopped, the police officer said 25 is the limit and he was driving on 35. When Chief Judge Frank Caprio heard that his family was in the courtroom, they were summoned. The judge spoke to the driver’s wife who believed her husband was not guilty. The judge went on to say that the driver may be guilty of endangerment to the child along with speeding charges. He invited his son, Menalik close to him and asked ‘Is your father guilty or not guilty?’ What did Menalik reply? Was his father charged of speeding and endangerment of other lives?
For this father, his son would decide his fate.
