On Monday, a cop from Texas was arrested on the charges of murder for the Saturday shooting of the unarmed black man who tried to resolve a domestic fight.
According to the CrimeOnline, the Texas Department of Public Safety informed that the Texas Ranger’s preliminary investigation highlighted that officer Shaun Lucas of the Wolfe City Police’s action was objectinably reasonable.
There were no specific details about the incident released by the officials. Lee Merritt, who represents Jonathan Price’s family, claimed that 31-years-old Price has only interfered when he saw a man hitting a woman at the gas station.
According to Merritt, the responding officer laser tased Price who surrendered to explain what he was doing. Perceiving Price’s involuntary convulsions as threat another officer open fired on him.
The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a statement that supports the attorney’s claims.
The statement reads, “Officer Lucas attempted to detain Price, who resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away. Officer Lucas deployed his TASER, followed by discharging his service weapon striking Price.”
On Sunday, the police officials confirmed that Lucas was put on an administrative leave prior to his arrest.
In the meanwhile, Lucas’s bonds were set on $1 million.
