When they heard the happy news that they were expecting twins, Greg and his wife Shelly were overjoyed. But the happiness lasted until the 20th week of pregnancy.
Doctors saw that the babies were conjoined and they thought that they wouldn’t survive the separation, so they recommended Shelly to terminate the pregnancy.
The statistic shows that survival rate of conjoined twins is between 5% and 25%. 75 % chance is that one of the twins will survive the surgery.
They made the decision to have the twins because “We agreed that it wouldn’t be fair it they don’t get a chance” said the father, after which Shellie gave birth to two beautiful girls – Allison and Amelia.
When the twins were 9 months old they were operated for 7 hours by a team made of 40 doctors. The surgery was successful.
“When the surgeon said they were separated, the weight of the whole world fell off my shoulders”, stated the happy and proud father.
