A Minnesota woman intentionally killed her disabled daughter and then waited for hours to contact the authorities, pretending not to know what had occurred during the time. The 35-year-old Elise C.
Nelson is now behind the bars, after having been charged with second-degree manslaughter and second-degree intentional murder. This is in connection with the death of her 13-year-old disabled daughter, Kylie Larson.
Kylie wore a pulse oximeter as she was significantly impaired. The oximeter was a finger clip device that was used to monitor her pulse rate and oxygen levels, that is, a warning alarm sounded off in case her levels dropped too low.
Kylie was unable to walk on her own or even take care of herself due to severe developmental delays during childbirth, as she was experiencing oxygen loss during the time.
On June 20, Nelson allegedly silenced Kylie’s pulse oximeter warning alarm two times while her husband was out on a fishing trip and their other children were not at home as well, according to the court documents. In addition to that, she continued to do it throughout the weekend and then ended up completely turning off the device and thus silencing the warning alarm.
According to a criminal complaint, there was nothing that could monitor the child’s pulse rates or oxygen saturation levels with the machine off. Thus, Kylie’s last pulse was detected on June 22 at 6:43 a.m., according to CBS Minnesota reports. However, Nelson didn’t report immediately but allegedly waited for six hours to call 911.
When first responders arrived, they said that she had been dead for quite some time as they found Kylie unresponsive on the living room floor. Pools of blood was building up on the back of her legs when she was first found by the authorities.
The machine’s information was then sent to Medtronic by Stearns County Sheriff’s Office investigators, who later confirmed that the oximeter was working perfectly fine.
Thus, Nelson was subsequently arrested for intentionally depriving care.
