A sensational Australian housewife has shared her “game-changing” trick to refresh old carrots. Never again will you have to toss carrots in the garbage or compost. The creative mom decided to share her trick on TikTok. Now, she is delighted to know that her DIY hack has gone viral with more than 1.1 million views. But Lottie Dalziel is not done helping people. She wants you to know that this trick really does the job!
Dalziel, who lives in Sydney with her family, posted the video to TikTok because she knew it could help other people – and reduce the amount of food waste in the world. As a founder of the eco-friendly beauty store named Banish, she lives and breathes all things environmentally friendly. That’s why she spends her time finding ways to reduce waste and leave a smaller carbon footprint. And she hopes other people follow her down the path to sustainability.
In the short viral video, Dalziel holds an old carrot and shows her viewers how she submerges it in water to refresh it.
“Do you have some old, bendy carrots sitting in the fridge? Well, don’t throw them out, they’re probably just dehydrated,” she said in the video.
Carrots get bendy when they have been sitting in the fridge for too long. While most people assume these carrots have gone bad, Dalziel wants her fans to know that they have not. They just need to be refreshed using this simple kitchen trick.
“Pop them in some water for five minutes – yes, this does work – pull them out, and they will be as good as gold!”
The soaking time varies because it depends on how old the carrot is. According to a report on Daily Mail about Dalziel, this trick does not just work on carrots. It can also help you revive the old lettuce, celery, spring onion, and bok choy that you have sitting in your fridge’s vegetable drawer.
Because the video went viral almost immediately, TikTok users started sharing their reactions. With more bendy carrots in the fridge now because of COVID-19, lots of comments came streaming into Dalziel’s post.
“It does work! Sometimes it helps to peel them a little bit first,” one person said.
“Does work, but after a few hours,” another said.
A third person wrote: “I store mine in water in the fridge. Change the water once a week and they last for ages.”
In addition to her video about refreshing old carrots, she also uses TikTok to teach other housewives useful tricks. One video shows her fans how to grow their own green onions at home. All you need to do is buy some from the grocery store and then put aside a jar of water for the vegetable to grow in.
While she has a lot of tricks regarding food like carrots and green onions, she also shared a trick to revive over-stretched hair ties.
“All you need to do is boil the kettle and soak the [hair ties] in water for about ten seconds, and they become nice and tight again!” the Aussie mom said.
