JACKSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Authorities have charged a man who allegedly was seen loading his unresponsive wife’s body into a pickup truck and refusing to stop for police until he arrived at the emergency room.
Jackson County officials say the incident took place on Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, after deputies were called to Union Hill Road where someone reported seeing a female was lying unresponsive on the shoulder of the road and a male was trying to load the female into the vehicle.
Prior to deputies arriving on the scene, the 911 center indicated the female, later identified as Danielle Brady Hicks, 34, had been loaded into a white pickup truck by a man, later identified as Billy Jack Hicks, Sr., 48, with the assistance of a passerby.
Deputies arriving at the scene attempted to stop the vehicle as it left to community Union Hill Road and continued onto U.S. 19/74, traveling east. The vehicle did not stop but did continue onto Harris Regional Hospital before stopping near the emergency room entrance.
Danielle Hicks was suffering from a gunshot wound and was later transported to Mission Hospital where authorities say she passed away the following day.
Prior to her death, Billy Hicks, Sr., was interviewed and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, Billy Hicks was arrested on the Qualla Boundary. Authorities say, more charges are likely to be followed in the wake of Mrs. Hicks’ death.
Billy Hicks is currently held in the Jackson County Detention Center under a no bond.
