A Texas mother has been charged with murder after allegedly killing her 4-year-old daughter and hiding the child’s body in a backyard trash can.
Krystal Lewandowski, 34, was arrested Monday for the murder of her daughter, Czara Lewandowski, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Police were summoned to the home in Fairmount on Monday morning after Lewandowski called 911 to report her daughter missing; however, after the emergency dispatcher began asking questions about the situation, Lewandowski claimed that she last saw her daughter in the backyard and then admitted to killing her, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the outlet.
“OK, maybe I should just tell you now. OK, so last night I was advised to slit her throat,” Lewandowski allegedly said. She then allegedly admitted to covering the child’s body and placing it in a trash can located in the backyard. Upon their arrival, authorities found the girl where her mother had said she would be, and she was pronounced dead on the scene.
Lewandowski admitting to killing her daughter on Sunday night, according to the Star-Telegram. She said that she did it because she was “told to do so, or something worse would happen,” a detective wrote in the affidavit, according to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth.
Fort Worth police are investigating the child’s death as a homicide.
“The reality of it is this is a very sad case. We have a child that has been murdered,” police spokesperson Buddy Calzada told NBC 5.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has confirmed that Lewandowski was already on its radar but did not elaborate on any past incidents, the Star-Telegram reports.
Lewandowski is also the mother of an 18-month-old boy, who was removed from the home upon Lewandowski’s arrest. He was not hurt, and has been placed in protective care, according to NBC 5.
