Kevin O’Leary is best known for being one of the investors on the hit show “Shark Tank.”
Sadly, in a statement released to People, over the weekend, O’Leary was involved in a boat crash that claimed the lives of two other individuals.
Also, in the statement, it clarified that the 65-year-old businessman was not the driver of one of the boats, but rather a passenger. The statement read:
“On late Saturday night, I was a passenger in a boat that was involved in a tragic collision with another watercraft that had no navigation lights on and then fled the scene. I am fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation. Out of respect for the victims’ families and to fully support the ongoing investigation I feel it is inappropriate to make further comments at this time. My heartfelt prayers and condolences to the victims, the families, and those affected by this loss.”
As TMZ reports, a representative for the O’Leary family confirmed that it was O’Leary’s wife, Linda, who was driving the boat. She was subjected to a DUI test and passed.
Sources also told TMZ that O’Leary believes there is footage of where the crash took place. He thinks it will prove the other boat’s navigation lights were not on, despite the owner of that other boat saying they were, in fact, on.
That owner also claims that it was O’Leary’s boat that fled, not their’s.
According to Ontario Provincial Police, the accident took place on Lake Joseph in Ontario, Canada around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 24. A spokesperson for the Ontario Provincial Police told People:
