Home surveillance footage caught an unknown man rummaging through a nursery while a 2-month-old baby slept in the crib.
According to Fox News, the man can be seen in the video looking through the nursery for any valuables. It’s believed he entered the apartment through the window above the fire escape.
Police say the 32-year-old man who owns the walkup was awake in his living room, which was ultimately what spooked the burglar out of the home.
NBC New York reports that the unknown suspect left empty-handed sometime after 8 p.m. on March 8.
The infant’s father submitted the footage to the New York City Police Department. Now the NYPD has released the video of the man in the infant’s nursery to the public in an attempt to identify him:
However, according to police, that wasn’t the burglar’s only stop that night.
As Fox News reports, after leaving the father’s apartment, the man entered yet another apartment in the same building, but on a different floor. This time, the owner was a 28-year-old woman.
The suspect reportedly stole the woman’s jewelry, a bicycle, and a backpack from the apartment. It is believed he entered into the woman’s home the same way he entered the nursery, through the window above the fire escape.
The man hasn’t been seen since leaving the woman’s apartment with the stolen goods. The NYPD is now asking any potential witness or anyone who might recognize the man in the video to call CrimeStoppers.
While it’s important to always lock your doors, it’s also important to be cognizant of windows and other ways intruders can get into your homes.
