A 3-year old’s parents now face child endangerment charges after she accidentally shot herself in the foot with her dad’s gun.
As Fox 8 reports, the parents originally told authorities that the toddler was shot in the foot during a drive-by.
The child’s parents’, Mitchell Digiore and Brittany Powell, car broke down on the way to the hospital.
Modesto Police spokeswoman Sharon Bear said they couldn’t get their story straight:
“The officers discovered inconsistencies in the stories. It appears to us that the child possibly got the gun and it accidentally went off and shot them in the foot.”
According to authorities, it was Digiore’s gun the little girl shot herself with.
Neighbor Tracy Hiller said gun owners have to be responsible:
“It’s distressing. I’m not opposed to gun ownership, absolutely not. But it has to be with responsibility.”
According to another neighbor, Ed Olsen what happens in the future is the most important thing:
“Everything has a past and I just hope that the future’s better.”
Digiore is also a felon and is now being held for possession of a firearm along with the child endangerment charge.
