An Ohio man killed a young boy before turning his gun on himself on while broadcasting live on Facebook in a murder-suicide.
Miami Township police said Miamisburg resident Jovonie McClendon Jr., 33, called police to say he shot his girlfriend, Di’eshia Patterson, 27, and her son, Carter Clemons, 6, on Friday, and said he was about to do the same to himself.
“I just killed my girlfriend and her son and I’m about to kill myself,” he told a 911 operator around 11:30 a.m., local outlet Dayton Daily News reports. “I’m just saying I’m sorry.”
Another person who called 911 told emergency dispatchers, “My friend just killed himself on Facebook,” the outlet reports.
He then shot himself on Facebook Live, according to the Dayton Daily News; the video has been removed from the site, while McClendon’s profile has since transitioned to a memorial.
McClendon and Clemons were pronounced dead at the scene, while Patterson remains in critical condition and is currently in the hospital.
Montgomery County Police Chief Ron Hess told reporters during a press conference that the whole incident happened within minutes, the Dayton Daily News reports.
“We believe as soon as he called regional dispatch… he shot himself,” Hess said. “This is tragic for everybody.”
Police said that no motive has been established for the shooting, according to local station WDTN, adding that they had not dealt with McClendon previously.
McClendon was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service in Washington Township, according to the Dayton Daily News, and he was previously enlisted in the U.S. Army.
