At an Aldi grocery store location in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England, a woman went ballistic, breaking thousands of dollars’ worth of alcohol bottles. During her rampage, the Aldi staff watched as though she were providing some sort of entertainment for them during their shift. Surveillance footage from the grocery store caught the entire act on camera. The woman grabbed bottles one by one as she bashed them about, smashing them to smithereens until she was surrounded by shards of broken glass and pools of spilled wine.
Now, the woman has been arrested following the rampage at the grocery store location on Wednesday afternoon. The woman picked up bottles from the grocery store shelves and smashed them to bits on the floor of the store. By the end of the rampage, the liquor aisle is on the ground in the form of smashed glass and poured-out liquid. The staff of the store was too terrified to confront the woman while she was in the middle of her attack on the shelves. However, a different camera angle showed that the woman cleared most of the middle shelves of alcohol.
Police arrived at the store around 2:30 pm. They wasted no time doing their jobs. The woman was arrested within moments because there was so much evidence against her. Footage from yet another angle shows the police officer leading the woman away from the graveyard of shattered glass very carefully so as not to become injured himself or to accidentally injure the suspect.
The rampage left the woman injured. She was arrested but was first being treated in a hospital for cuts to her hands. When the video made its way to the internet, people were appalled at her behavior. But some people were shocked that the low-paid employees did not risk their safety to put a stop to this woman and her rampage.
“I can’t believe all the staff stood around watching!” wrote a critic.
Another fumed: “Why on earth was she allowed to cause so much damage before she was stopped?”
Yet another critic wrote: “What’s the world coming to when nobody in the shop can stop a young woman from demolishing the whole store.”
At least one viewer was able to see the situation from the side of the woman.
“The poor girl is probably not well or desperate for help, she’s not done anything violent, and Aldi can afford it.”
Although an Aldi spokesperson was reached regarding this incident, they were unable to issue an official comment.
A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire police said: “Police were called at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday, November 25, to report an incident at the Aldi supermarket in Fairlands Way, Stevenage. It was reported that several bottles of alcohol had been thrown onto the floor and smashed. Officers attended, and a woman was arrested. She was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries to her hands and is now in police custody.”
