For two years, a five-year-old girl from West Texas endured sexual and physical abuse at the hands of a 62-year-old man. The girl’s mother, who was supposed to be her protector, was the one who pimped her out to the suspect. Fortunately, an anonymous tip to the Child Protective Services saved the victim’s life.
The man was identified as Gary Landreth, a resident of Ector County. The 62-year-old suspect was accused of sexually and physically assaulting a five-year-old girl in a span of two years between 2017 to 2019.

Landreth faced four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14. He was held at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center with five bonds totaling $750,000.
Later investigation showed that Landreth made a deal with the girl’s mom, Shirley Harmon during the time of the abuse. Despite being aware of Landreth’s ill intentions, Harmon reportedly allowed him to continue seeing her daughter in exchange of money.
On January 9, 2019, the little girl told someone about the abuse. The anonymous tipper then called Child Protective Services, who immediately went at the family’s home in 2600 block of Gemini Street in North Odessa.
Later examination showed that the victim’s body had signs indicative of a sexual assault. Shortly after Landreth and Harmon’s arrest, the little girl was taken into CPS custody.

During her interview with the investigators, Harmon revealed that her daughter had confessed to her about Landreth’s assaults. However, Harmon turned a deaf ear to her daughter’s pleas and continued to allow the suspect in seeing the girl.
At one point, Landreth claimed that he made a one-time payment of $400 to Harmon to sexually assault her daughter. Due to her complacency and neglect, the Texas mom faced multiple felony charges related to continuous sexual abuse of a child and abandoning or endangering a child.
In March 18, 2019, Harmon was booked at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center with two bonds totaling $115,000.
