Mom Is Told Her Own Mother Stabbed Her Toddler and Baked Her in the Oven: ‘My Heart Has Been Ripped Out’

A Mississippi mother is planning her daughter’s funeral after police found the toddler in her grandmother’s oven Monday night.

Twenty-month-old, Royalty Floyd, was reportedly stabbed to death and burned in 48-year-old grandma Caroyln Jones’ oven. Jones was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, but her daughter Veronica Jones told WMC5 her mother isn’t a violent person.

Veronica is still coming to terms with the fact her own mother may be responsible for the little girl’s death. The grieving mother took to Facebook on Tuesday to speak out following her mom’s arrest.

Veronica wrote:

I’m being told that my mother stabbed my daughter and baked her in the oven but my mother loved my daughter.

She added:

Royalty Marie Floyd was the best thing that ever happened to me. She’s my one and only daughter.

My first love. The hardest thing that I ever had to go through in my life. My heart has been ripped from my chest.

She told WBTV her mother frequently watched the toddler and “always treated Royalty like royalty.”

According to The Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department, the little girl was living with Caroyln at the time of the murder, reports WREG.

Authorities received a call around 7 p.m. after a family member made the startling discovery. Investigators have confirmed the baby was dead before she was placed in the oven, reports WBTV.

At this time the motive of the stabbing has not been released. Veronica told the station:  My mom obviously was not herself.

The Shaw community gathered for a vigil outside Bolivar County Courthouse on Monday night. Sheriff Kevin Williams said during a press conference on Tuesday, reports People:

“Dark days such as these can only be brightened when justice has been served.”

The grandmother is being held on a $500,000 bond. Police are investigating the incident while Carolyn remains behind bars.
