Man arrested for fatally beating toddler before putting him in bed and fleeing

On Tuesday, a man from Tennessee was arrested on charges of criminal homicide for allegedly beating a 2-year-old boy to death for whining last week.

According to WKRN, a man identified as Rozelle Westmoreland, 33, admitted that he fatally beat up a toddler due to the child’s whining. The Nashville police reported that the accused hit the child in the torso and head and then pushed him into the side of a bathtub. This caused the child to fall and hit his head.

Westmoreland then proceeded to pick up the child, dress him, put him in bed and flee the apartment, as reported by WKRN. WZTV stated that the accused did not seek medical care for the child.

Police and firefighters responded to an apartment after receiving reports about an unresponsive child on Friday and so, learned of the case.

An autopsy on the victim revealed that the child had sustained nine rob fractures, two skull fractures and bleeding in the brain. Reports state the toddler also sustained serious internal injuries, a lung attached to his rib cage and a lacerated liver due to severe trauma.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

Westmoreland is in jail without bond. The nature of his relationship with the toddler is not yet known.
