‘I Forgive Her’: Casey Anthony’s Father Says Car Wreck Inspired Him to Mend Relationship With Daughter

by San Eli News

In 2008, a massive search for missing 2-year-old, Caylee Anthony, ended in tragedy when her remains were discovered just a few hundred feet from her grandparents’ home.

The killing quickly became highly publicized after her mother, Casey Anthony, was arrested and charged with the child’s murder, Dearly reported.

The crime and following trial fractured Casey’s relationship with her parents, George and Cindy Anthony. Their daughter would also testify that her father molested her during childhood, which he denied.

Casey was acquitted in 2011 due to lack of evidence, but the relationship with her family remained strained.

But now George says he’s ready to forgive her after going through a near-death experience.

In November, the 67-year-old was injured in a rollover crash in Florida when he lost control of his vehicle, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.

It inspired him to re-evaluate his family relationships, he said on Monday’s episode of “Dr. Oz.”

The father told Dr. Mehmet Oz that Casey reached out to him after the crash and that he’d like to see her sometime soon. George said:

“I would just like to tell her I’m sorry. You know that I forgive her. I forgive her and that’s hard for me to say, but you know what, I need to be forgiven by her, my son, and other family members or friends that I care so much about. Forgive me for what I’ve done. To all of our lives.”

His wife chimed in that he “didn’t do anything,” and that “it was an accident.”

George and Casey hadn’t spoken in years before she reached out about his health. He told Dr. Oz:

“We’re not connected anymore. And that hurts. I wish I could be part of her life, but I would never feel comfortable around her. I can’t trust her.”

Though he doesn’t trust his daughter, the 67-year-old said he’s looking to forgive her “for what she has put her mom, me, my son, and also not having Caylee here anymore. I would forgive her for all this stuff.”

He said that he’s learned an important lesson in life — forgiveness is key. George said:

“I’ve come to understand is the only way I’m going to get past a lot of things in my life. I have to forgive. I’ll never forget, but I need to forgive.”

It’s unclear if George and Casey reunited following the interview.
