After laughing while reporting that 6-year-old Prince George is taking ballet lessons, Good Morning America host Lara Spencer is apologizing.
On August 22, Spencer reported on Good Morning America that George as a pretty hefty workload ahead of him as he begins another year of school. Spencer said that on top of the usual “math, science, and history” students are asked to take, George is also enrolled in “religious studies, computer programming, poetry, and ballet.”

As recorded video of the newscast revealed, Spencer chuckled as she mentioned that the future King of England will be practicing ballet:
“Oh, he looks so happy about the ballet class. Prince William said George ‘absolutely loves ballet.’ I have news for you, Prince William, we’ll see how long that lasts.”
Shortly after making the pop news report, people began slamming Spencer for passing judgment on the 6-year-old for liking ballet.
Principal dancer for the New York City Ballet, Sara Mearns, wrote in response:
This is a disgrace, insulting, and ignorant. The fact that she started laughing and had the audience laughing is awful. I will not be watching ABC Network or Good Morning America ever again. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.
While former principal dancer, Robbie Fairchild, added:
To all the young boys out there… it is the greatest privilege to be a dancer. Where the badge with honor and to all the haters…well, they’ll be in the audience watching you someday on their feet applauding.
And one mom praised the male dancers who support her daughter:
Shame on you Lara Spencer. This is my daughter being lifted by a teenage male dancer. Do you even realize the strength it takes? There is nothing laughable about boys doing ballet. pic.twitter.com/kzTkPVW6Cz

Now Spencer is now apologizing for her actions on Instagram.
The newswoman wrote, “My sincere apologies for an insensitive comment I made in pop news yesterday. From ballet to anything one wants to explore in life, I say GO FOR IT. I fully believe we should all be free to pursue our passions. Go climb your mountain-and love every minute of it.”
