As Dearly previously reported, on August 15, retired NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., his wife, Amy, and their 1-year-old daughter Isla were involved in a scary plane crash.
Thankfully, everyone aboard the plane, including the two pilots and the family’s dog, all survived the fiery accident.
The crash happened at Elizabethton Municipal Airport when the aircraft “rolled off the end of [the] runway.” Elizabethton Fire Department Chief Barry Carrier told NASCAR that Dale, Amy, and Isla, as well as the others, were “lucky to escape”:
“They were very lucky. The plane is pretty much destroyed.”
Now, the former race car driver is speaking out about the crash for the first time since the accident took place.
Earnhardt Jr. took to Instagram to share a statement with his fans.
It read:
“Amy and I want to thank everyone who has lifted us up with phone calls, messages, and prayers since last Thursday. We are truly blessed that all on board escaped with no serious injuries, including our daughter, our two pilots and our dog Gus. With respect to the investigation, we will not be speculating or discussing the cause of the accident. I am thankful for the quick response of my pilots, local law enforcement, emergency personnel and hospital staff. Lastly, Amy and I continue to be very appreciative of the privacy extended to us to process everything. It has been important to do that together and on our own time.”
the crash, both Dale and Amy were taken to the hospital out of precaution. They were both released on Friday and as a representative for the family told People, “he and his family are doing well.”
Hundreds of people have since reached out to the Earnheardts, happy to hear that they are doing well since the accident.
As host, Andy Cohen wrote in the comments section of Earnhardt Jr. post, “So glad you’re all ok.”
