(WASHINGTON) The White House revealed its holiday decorations Monday with the theme “America the Beautiful.”
In a statement, the White House described the theme in terms of America’s “natural wonders” and “timeless treasures.”
First lady Melania Trump tweeted out photos of the decorations as well as a video that walks the viewer through the various decorations.
The first lady said, “Over the past four years I have had the honor to travel to some of our nation’s most beautiful landmarks and meet some of the most compassionate and patriotic American citizens. From coast to coast, the bond that all American’s share is an appreciation for our traditions, values, and history, which were the inspiration behind the decorations this year.”
According to CNN, highlights of this year’s display, which comes in the middle of the global COVID-19 pandemic, include a tribute to essential workers in the Red Room, including a light-up ceramic post office, and a tree with ornaments celebrating frontline workers, including a trash truck, scientist, caregiver, lab coat and nurse hat.
Previous Trump White House decoration themes focused on “The Spirit of America” and “American Treasures.” In 2018, the trees in the East Colonnade drew attention for their deep red appearance.
