There’s a lot of “hidden” history in El Paso, a lot of stories that are not widely known. One of those stories is the product of the Mexican Revolution.

“It ain’t right,” said Rogelio (not his real name) an inmate in a federal prison that I’ve been meeting and helping. “It ain’t right that I come to know who Jesus Christ is, the Blessed Mother is, and the doors close to me all just because I am in prison.”
There are many misconceptions about what the Missionaries do and why they do it. I’ve heard so many different explanations, as to why these young men and women serve a Mission. The ideas range from getting a free college education to not being able to get married or buy a home if they don’t serve a Mission. We spoke with Sister Dean and Sister Albrecht to learn about them and what they do.
Not too long ago, I was with a friend of mine while he was attending a meeting. I’m not a big fan of meetings, so I thought I would take a walk around the neighbourhood and maybe get a video of some trains crossing Yandell Drive. What I found was the Chenrezig Tibetan Buddhist Cultural Center in El Paso, Texas.

As I was sitting there, in silence, I found I was left with my thoughts and my conscience. All at once I found my mind racing and searching. I was beginning, without any prompting, thinking about my beliefs and my relationship with God, and where I fit in with His plans.
“When I’m out here, outside in the free world and I have a bad day,” says Greg Swann, pastor of Del Sol Sanchez. “And you know, pastors have bad days, just like everybody has a bad day, okay? And when I have a bad day – I go to the prison because that’s my happy place.”
