Ohio 12-year-old Keith Burkett fought his cancer battle for six long years before his life came to an end this week.
Thankfully, mom Taylore Woodard said that his “final wish” was granted on November 9, three days before his passing.
All he wanted was to walk his mother down the aisle at her wedding. Before the ceremony, she told Fox 8:
“He said, ‘Well Momma, I would like to walk you down the aisle before I die,’ and then I was like you know, we’re making it happen.”
With the help of friends and family, Woodard organized a wedding at her home in Stow. She called the special moment “bittersweet.”
During the wedding, Keith watched lovingly by his mother’s side, holding her hand as she exchanged vows.
Woodard wrote after the ceremony:
But my baby boy got to walk me down the aisle and we got to honor his final wish. Keith is still hanging on in true Keith fashion he is going to pass on his terms but I can sleep at night knowing that I gave our baby boy his wish!
The family shared photos of the heartwarming wedding on Keith’s Facebook page, Kourageous Keith.
Tragically, the 12-year-old passed away just three days later on November 12. His family confirmed the news on Facebook.
The post read:
Today at 12:57pm keith earned his angel wings and it’s now in heaven in peace to be with god. Mommy misses you so much already baby boy!
You will always be with mommy! I don’t know how mommy is going to live without you! A piece of me will forever be gone. I promise you baby I’ll do my best! We love you so much baby!! RIP MY KEIFY!
According to Fox News, Keith was diagnosed with undifferentiated soft tissue sarcoma in 2012. His cancer continued to spread despite multiple rounds of intensive treatment.
Keith was in hospice care when he passed away on Monday.
A GoFundMe page has been started for the family. It has raised over $5,000 so far.
