Arizona mother Jenna Folwell has been charged with the death of her four-month-old son.
According to People, Folwell was arrested on October 25 after her son, Rainer Canku-Folwell, drowned in a bathtub.
After being questioned by the police, the 19-year-old mother called her son’s death an accident. She told police that she was taking a bath with her son when she passed out. After coming to, she discovered her son face down in the water, not breathing.
However, as the investigation progressed, police said they began to see “inconsistencies” in the mom’s story. And that allegedly wasn’t her first lie.
Now it’s believed that Folwell planned her son’s death. As People reports, the mom made multiple Google searches before Rainer died.
According to authorities, those searches included “how long it takes babies to drown” and “reasons parents kill their babies.”
Folwell reportedly admitted to intentionally drowning her son so that she wouldn’t have to hear him cry anymore. Furthermore, she told the police that she reportedly stopped holding the child under water after she “felt bad” and started performing CPR.
When CPR didn’t bring her son back, she allegedly “panicked” and placed the infant’s body in a duffle bag.
As Chandler Police Department Detective Seth Tyler told Fox 10, after hiding the duffle bag in her apartment, Folwell walked to a nearby park where she called 911 claiming Rainer had been kidnapped after someone put a bag over her head.
The child’s father, Eric Canku, said in multiple statements:
“She took away the best thing in my life. There’s nothing that can ever replace him, and this is the last thing I have of his memories. I just don’t know what kind of person would do that to an innocent child.”
He continued while attending one of Folwell’s court hearings:
“She took away my life with Rainer the moment she took his life. I want her to have a life without parole. She can live every day knowing what she did to the poor innocent child.”
Folwell has not yet entered a plea deal and is expected to return to court on November 5. She has been formally charged with one count of first-degree murder.
A GoFundMe account has been created to help Canku pay for Rainer’s funeral expenses. The baby boy will be laid to rest on November 2.
