Tragedy struck on Christmas day when a pregnant woman was
killed by her ex-boyfriend in San Antonio, Texas.
Gabriella Rodriguez, 24, was killed while her two children, ages two and six, were nearby. Rodriguez was allegedly shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend who then turned the gun on himself, according to the San Antonio police.
At the time of her death, Rodriguez was 33 weeks pregnant
with a baby girl, according to police.
Rodriguez’s new boyfriend was with her at the time of the murder, according to reports. He and Rodriguez were going to drop off the two children with their father. The new boyfriend heard gunshots and called the police.
The ex-boyfriend, who has not been publically identified, is currently in critical condition at University Hospital.
Rodriguez’s aunt, Laura Salinas, set-up a fundraiser on Facebook for her family and to cover funeral expenses.
“Gabby was living life to the fullest and was extremely excited about becoming a mother to a baby girl, and having a wonderful life with [her boyfriend],” her aunt wrote in a Facebook post. “My beautiful intelligent niece was fun, loving, caring and my goodness was she was funny.”
Giancario Garza, Rodriguez’s boyfriend, spoke with KENS5 about his “best friend.”
“She would put her boys before anything and then she would put everyone else before her,” speaking to the outlet about her generous and caring spirit.
When I’m not hanging out with my three-year-old and husband in Brooklyn, I’m busy writing stories for Mamas Uncut and managing PR + Marketing for Magnolia Bakery, based in New York City. On weekends, you can usually find me at a local park or playground pushing my daughter on the swings, “researching” the best almond croissants in Park Slope or launching into impromptu family dance parties at home, the sidewalk or, every once in awhile, a restaurant bathroom. I’m still trying to master the whole parenting thing, but I have learned that copious amounts of coffee, humor and humility are involved on a daily basis.
