A man walked up to a McDonald’s restaurant off interstate 80 in Elko and started firing randomly, shooting a teen girl. Kylee Leniz, 16 was working around 9:30 pm at the restaurant’s window Sunday night. She was immediately taken to the Northeastern Nevada Regional hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Justin Michael Mullis, 24 showed up and shot her. There has been found no connection between the man and Kylee. The shooting at the restaurant seems to be a random attack. Later an acquaintance drove Mullis to the police station, he was arrested and is charged with open murder.
“It is with a heavy heart that we lost one of our Elko employees and are deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred last night”. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the employee during this deeply difficult time, said Chris Kassity, McDonald’s owner-operator.
The local people gathered and placed balloons and brought flowers at the corner of Idaho Street and Boyd Drive, by the restaurant. The school Leniz went to is offering students mental health support to students.
