Tonight was a bittersweet moment. Our San Elizario Lady Eagles traveled to Monahans, Texas to take on the Hereford Whitefaces.
The Lady Eagles came out fighting, matching point for point, play for play. Up until the final buzzer, the game was a close one. In the end, our ladies lost 53-49.
It was a hard loss for all of us, the girls, especially. They’ve worked hard all season to get here. After the game, to see their faces, their tears, it tore my heart to pieces.
Mario Andretti, one of my favorite overall drivers, once said: “Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal—a commitment to excellence—that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”
These girls have the determination and commitment to do anything they set their hearts and minds to pursue. Each one of them is going to change our lives, our community, and our futures.
I’m proud of each one of them. Each of these girls, cheerleaders, coaches, support staff and their families have become family to me. You’ve won a special place in the hearts of so many. You’ve inspired hope, faith, and brought a community together.
Emily, Arlene, Victoria, Iliana, Nadya, Desiree, Audrey, Natalia, Nadeen, Catarina, Camila, I’m proud as hell of every one of you. Thank you for sharing these games and your lives with me. It means to world to me, and everyone you’ve encountered along the way.
Congratulations, Lady Eagles, on a job well done!
We also want to congratulate the Girls of Herford. You’ve fought hard and won a game against a strong and fantastic opponent. Congratulations!
